Survey Says New Jersey Business Is Big On Governor Christie

By David Madden

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's poll numbers within the state have been nothing to write home about in recent months, but he continues to fare well with at least one group of voters.

Perhaps as a surprise to no one, New Jersey business likes Chris Christie…a lot. In fact, 57-percent gave him a thumbs up, according to a survey conducted by the New Jersey Business and Industry Association.

"That 57-percent is members who are saying he's doing a good to excellent job," says NJBIA president Michelle Siekerka. "Want me to give you a comparison? They gave President Obama a nine-percent approval rating and the U.S. Congress a mere three-percent rating."

Siekerka says she isn't surprised by the results:

"The administration has done an excellent job of trying to turn the trend on bad business policy and create a good business climate."

It's important to remember this is a constituency that has direct benefits from Christie's efforts to keep taxes low.

The group started asking members about their political feelings more than 20 years ago. No one has fared better in that survey than Christie.
