Three Injured In Wilmington Apartment Fire

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) –  Three people were injured when fire ripped through a unit of an apartment building in Wilmington, Delaware Sunday night.

The blaze was reported just after 9 p.m. at the Valley Run apartment complex on the unit block Butternut Court.

Officials say fire ripped through the roof of at least one unit.

A 79-year-old resident of the apartments injured her back while evacuating the residence. She was treated on the scene and then taken to St. Francis Hospital in stable condition.

A 25-year-old paramedic was treated for an ankle injury while working at the scene. He was taken to Wilmington Hospital in stable condition.

A 28-year-old firefighter suffered a head injury while battling the blaze. He was transported to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

A fourth person, a 27-year-old resident, suffered possible smoke inhalation but refused transportation to the hospital.

The American Red Cross was assisting six families, 12 total people, affected by the fire.

The fire happened just three miles from the scene of another apartment fire, earlier in the day, in Claymont, Delaware, that killed one person and left a second person injured.

The fire marshall was investigating the cause of both fires.
