Elderly Pedestrian Fatally Struck In Delaware

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – Delaware State Police say an elderly woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in New Castle, Delaware Saturday evening.

This happened around 6:15 p.m. on the 900 block of Cox Neck Road.

The 78-year-old victim, identified by police as Jean Caricchio, was struck by a vehicle operated by 46-year-old Tammy Poppe. Paramedics found her in the roadway with head, internal and extremity injuries and she was pronounced dead on the scene.

Poppe remained on the scene and was not injured. No charges have been filed.

Cox Neck Road was closed for several hours near where the accident occurred for an investigation, which is ongoing.
