Police: Man Helping Crash Victim Struck By Car On I-95

TINICUM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) — Police say man was seriously injured after he was struck by a car along I-95 while trying to help another driver.

It happened around 5 a.m. Sunday in the southbound lanes near the Route 420 Exit in Tinicum Township, Delaware County.

The victim has been identified by officials as Daniel Callaway, a volunteer firefighter and career EMT with Wilmington Manor Fire Company.

State Police say Callaway got out of his car to help another driver who had stopped after getting involved in a single-vehicle crash. It was then, authorities say, another passing vehicle struck Callaway.

He  was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the driver of the striking vehicle did remain at the scene.

I-95 South was closed at Route 420 (Exit 9) for hours as a result of the accident.
