Fire Destroys Detective's Home In Montgomery County

By Walt Hunter

LOWER POTTSGORVE Twp., Pa. (CBS) -- The search is on for the cause of a two-alarm fire that destroyed the home of Limerick Township Detective Ernie Morris.

Flames tore through the home where the officer lives with his wife and two teenage daughters. The family, vacationing in Florida, rushed back to find their house virtually destroyed.

Officially, the Lower Pottsgrove Fire Marshal, who is working with the State Police and Montgomery County fire investigators, says the cause of the fire is undetermined.

While the Montgomery County District Attorney has now officially classified the fire as suspicious, it's still not known exactly how the blaze started.

Neighbors describe flames and smoke pouring from the home in the early morning hours.

At mid-morning, detective Morris returned, attempting to gather personal items, he stopped to shake the hands of firefighters who tried so hard to save his home.

With holiday decorations still wrapped around the light post in their front yard, the family, neighbors vow, will not be forgotten. Those neighbors and friends already working to help the family in any way they can to recover as the holidays approach.
