A Flourtown, Pa. Girls' School Spotlights Female Accomplishment

By Jim Melwert

FLOURTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- An all-girls prep school in Montgomery County, Pa. is hosting a week of events aimed at empowering young women with presentations from students and recent graduates.

Called "Women as Founders," it's taking place at Mount St. Joseph Academy, in Flourtown.  And its organizers plan it to be yearly event.

"It's not only taking the opportunities that they're given here, but also in creating some change in the world that brings about good," says Connie D'Angelo, the school's dean of student affairs.

The week kicked off with presentations from seniors currently taking the seminar course.  Belin Mirabile (in top photo) organized a 12-hour dance "mini-thon" to fight pediatric cancer.

"Last year, in our first year, we raised over $35,635," she told the attendees today.

The week includes presentations from alumnae and wraps up Friday with an "Hour of Code" and a presentation on women in computer science.
