Today Marks National Adoption Day And Camden County Is Celebrating Nearly 23 Approved Adoptions

By David Madden

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Today is National Adoption Day across America. To mark the occasion, Camden County yesterday celebrated 23 newly approved adoptions.

County surrogate Patricia Jones is quick to remind anyone who asks that Camden County routinely is in the upper echelon when it comes to adoptions in New Jersey. But it's events like this that help to bring to the forefront the many options potential parents have available to them.

"There are private adoptions. There are foreign adoptions. There are the ordinary agency adoptions and then there's our division of child protection."

A half dozen judges approved the new family additions as part of this year's commemoration. But consider this, there's still a thousand young people in the county currently in foster care just waiting to find their permanent home.

Jones says those who reach out to help often find they get much more than they give.
