Woman Dies After Suffering Injuries In South Jersey House Fire
GLOUCESTER CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- Fire officials say a woman and three dogs have died following a house fire in South Jersey Friday.
The fire started at about 11:40 a.m. in a home in the 700 block of Highland Avenue in Gloucester City.
According to the county Fire Marshal, firefighters arrived and encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from the home. They were able to quickly bring the blaze under control.
Fire officials said two women were rescued from the home and were rushed to a nearby hospital for severe smoke inhalation. One woman, identified by police as 67-year-old Lorraine Smolinski, succumbed to her injuries Monday afternoon.
Authorities say the second victim, a 27-year-old woman, was treated at Cooper and discharged Sunday.
Unfortunately, the Fire Marshal said three dogs were also killed in the fast-moving fire.
Investigators believe the fire was accidental. The cause remains under investigation.
