Pa. Official Reaches Out To Montco Students About Power To Vote

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) - With the Pennsylvania gubernatorial elections taking place Tuesday, one woman in government is traveling the commonwealth, reaching out to students about voting.
Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Carol Aichele, has been visiting voter-aged students across the state, including a stop at Upper Merion High School.
"I have been visiting high schools across Pennsylvania to encourage students to participate in government and to register to vote," she says.
(Kuznits) "Do the kids know that there's an election next week?"
"These kids certainly knew there was an election," says Aichele.
Secretary Aichele says students need to know that they are the most sought-after group in American politics and they have the power to influence policy through their vote. And, she says, students typically understand this:
"They certainly turned out in the 2008 presidential election and I hoped that it would continue; part of what I'm doing is trying to encourage Pennsylvania students to participate statewide."
