Retailers Readying Early Start to Holiday Shopping Season

By tech editor Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's not even Halloween, but already retailers are trying to win your holiday shopping dollars with promises of bargains that rival Black Friday's.

Amazon is giving its "Prime" members early access to lightning sales.

"A lot of good HDTV deals, tablet deals -- a lot of tech stuff," says Brent Shelton with the deal site FatWallet.com.

And he says you don't need a paid membership to get in on the online price wars.

"We're going to see the same thing from Best Buy, Sears, and Walmart, which is going to give their [e-mail list] members a sneak peek of what's going on and probably early access to the doorbusters," he tells KYW Newsradio.

Predictions for the actual shoppers' holiday?  Touch-screen laptops under $300, and Macbooks up to $250 off list.

"It will be a really good time to nab a TV, especially if you need a second TV for the bedroom or spare room," says Shelton.

On "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving, prices for quality smart TVs and off-brand 4K TVs will sink below $500, he predicts.

And, unlike last Christmas, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 should come at a discount.
