1 Killed In 2-Car Crash On Schuylkill Expressway

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One person was killed in a crash that backed-up traffic for several hours on the Schuylkill Expressway early Thursday morning.

The deadly crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway near the Montgomery Drive exit off-ramp.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a car that was traveling in the left lane unsafely entered the center lane and then the right lane. A second car, which was in the center lane, attempted to move from the center lane to the right lane to avoid the other car.

However, the second car was clipped in the left rear corner and was pushed onto the shoulder and up a grassy hill. The car eventually came back the hill and blocked the right lane.

The first car also went up the hill and overturned. The car then rolled back down the hill and landed on its left side, blocking the right lane and the right shoulder. Investigators say Shawn Burton, was driving the first car and was killed in the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Shanna Anderson was driving the second car.

All eastbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway were fully reopened around 10 a.m.

The deadly crash remains under investigation.
