Starved Dog Found In Back Yard Of Chester Home

By Steve Beck

CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- An investigation is underway after an extremely malnourished dog was found in the back yard of a Delaware County home.

The dog was so under-fed that her ribs protruded and she barely had the strength to stand on her legs without repeatedly falling down.

Officials with the Delaware County SPCA seized the pit bull after it was spotted in the back yard of a home in Chester.

Delco SPCA officials said the dog weighed a little over 20 pounds.

The animal, named Pearl because of her beautiful disposition despite the adversity she has faced, is currently in the care of the Delco SPCA.

Upon intake, the dog reportedly showed undying affection for people and a constant tail wag.

Pearl is on regimented two-hour feedings throughout the day and night and is receiving supplements and any other necessary veterinary care.

An investigation of the current resident of the Chester home where Pearl was found is currently underway.

Donations are necessary to care for Pearl. To make a specific donation to support Pearl's care, visit http: delcospca.org/donate. Checks can be made out to Delco SPCA and mailed to the Delco SPCA at 555 Sandy Bank Road, in Media, PA, 19063.
