Eagles Look To Get McCoy Back On Track

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The Eagles are off to a 3-0 start.  Their unbeaten record is impressive considering the lack of production from their top offensive threat.

Despite the Eagles' winning ways, LeSean McCoy has struggled through the first three games of the season. Through three games, McCoy has just 175 yards rushing and 64 yards receiving, a far cry from his pace of 2,146 total yards a year ago.

"I'm a competitor," said McCoy.  "This game is made of of people who are competing.  It can get a little frustrating, because you want to go out and make plays and do what you're used to.  That's the reason the defenses are playing like that.  It's a respect thing, but you really want to go out there and dominate."

Chip Kelly made it clear he will give McCoy plenty of chances to break out of his early-season slump.  Kelly added he didn't feel the need to give any kind of pep talk to his running back.

"We haven't had any conversations about it," Kelly said.  "The one thing I know about LeSean is that he wants to win.  He's actually had more carries in the first three games this year than he had in the first three games last year. Obviously, the same five guys blocking for him has part of what to do with it.  We've got to do a better job in the run game overall."

It's no secret the Eagles are doing all they can to correct the issues with their running game.  Offensive Lineman Todd Herremans says the combination of teams stacking the line and mistakes by the Eagles offensive line has led to a slow start for the ground game.

"We are getting guys that are loading up the box a little bit," said Herremans.  "But in general, we've just got to make our point and punch angles and give Shady and (Darren) Sproles some creases to hit.  I don't think we did that very well last week."

While McCoy stuggled again last week, Nick Foles got the Eagles passing attack going in a win over Washington. McCoy knows his time will come where he returns to form, but he says being 3-0 is the most important stat no matter how the offense scores.

"Everybody keeps talking about how the running game is not doing well," McCoy said.  "But we're winning games.  If teams want to come in and try to stop the run, and Nick's playing at a high level and making plays, then that's how they'll lose."

Defensive Lineman Fletcher Cox returned to practice on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's workout.
