SWAT Called After Detectives Hear Gunshot When Serving Arrest Warrant In South Jersey

WEST DEPTFORD, N.J., (CBS) -- UPDATE: A barricade situation in a South Jersey neighborhood has ended, according to police.
Authorities say a SWAT unit was called to a neighborhood in West Deptford where gunfire was heard from a house where police were attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, the U.S. Marshals with support from the Gloucester County fugitive squad attempted to arrest a 24-year-old for violating parole.
When they arrived at his friend's residence on the 1000 block of Buckingham Drive, the other people in the house came outside to talk with authorities. At that point there was a single gun shot believed to be fired inside the townhouse.
The block was shut down and the SWAT unit responded to the scene. The American Red Cross South Jersey Chapter provided canteen services including food, beverages and snacks to emergency personnel. The Red Cross also assisted about 12 townhome evacuees who were displaced from their homes.
Police say after a period of time, the SWAT Team entered the home, and they found the 24-year-old man deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
All residents in the neighborhood were allowed to return safely to their homes.
