CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- A suspect involved in a domestic incident was arrested after he tried to stab a police officer with an ice pick in South Jersey.

The incident happened at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday in Camden, New Jersey.

According to investigators, Camden County police officers responded to a domestic incident involving 24-year-old Jerrick Lawrence.

Authorities say Lawrence ran from the scene when officers arrived.

Officer Stephen Marakowski chased after Lawrence and eventually caught up with him and wrestled him to the ground. Officers Gabriel Sommella and Brandon Galloza then joined in the effort to subdue Lawrence.

During the struggle, investigators say Lawrence pulled out an ice pick and swung it at Officer Sommella. The officers were able to disarm Lawrence and he was placed under arrest.

Lawrence was charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Criminal Mischief and two counts of Resisting Arrest. The Certain Persons charge is based on a past conviction for burglary.

He is being held at the Camden County jail on $85,000.

The officers were not injured.
