Trump Plaza Shuts Down; 4th Atlantic City Casino To Close

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) --- The yellow signs are up on the doors to the boardwalk entrance of Trump Plaza. At 6am it became the fourth casino to close this year and the third since Labor Day Weekend.
Looking at the numbers from the state gaming commission, Trump Plaza ranked last in revenue, this year bringing in around $36 million. Compare that to the leader, Borgata, which took in $430 million.
That's a far cry from the peak of Trump Plaza, says Michael, an Atlantic City resident who wanted to play a final hand of blackjack here.
"It's quiet. It's a ghost town in there," he said. "It's sad because I remember flashing back to the buzz that would be in that place."
Some of that energy, he says, came from mega fights held next door at Boardwalk Hall but sponsored by the casino in the '80s, during the height of Mike Tyson's boxing career.
The closure leaves around 1,100 people out of work, joining thousands of others who used to work at Atlantic Club, Showboat, and Revel.
