Shutdown Warning Letters Go Out to Taj Mahal Casino Employees

By David Madden

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- As expected, workers at the Trump Taj Mahal casino-hotel in Atlantic City have received formal warning that their jobs may be gone by mid-November.

The federally mandated 60-day warning letters were sent out this week, according to a Trump Entertainment official.

Those letters are timed to coincide with this week's announcement that the Taj Mahal could close on or about November 13th, absent major concessions from debtors and labor unions.

Unite Here Local 54, which represents most hotel and casino personnel, has already indicated there will be no more concessions on their part, saying the union hopes to work with a new owner.

The Trump Plaza shuts down next Tuesday.  Assuming the Taj is also shuttered, that will be five casinos closed in less than a year and 11,000 people put out of work.
