In South Jersey, Driving Home A Lesson About Texting While Driving

MEDFORD, N.J. (CBS) -- Students at the Burlington County Institute of Technology today got an up-close-and-personal taste of the dangers of texting behind the wheel. The Phillies even sent out one of their own to help drive home the point that text can wait if you're driving.

AT&T set up a simulator for the kids and adults to try their luck.
Phillies' third baseman Cody Asche did, and smashed into a car.
"That's not my fault! He hit me!" Asche tried to protest, but was overruled by the umpires.

Still, it helped to bring home the bottom line to the students in the cafeteria.
"I have a lot to look forward to in my future," said one, "so I try to take it pretty serious and not use my phone when I'm in the car."
Steven Cooper, a senior from Pemberton, admits he used to text and drive -- but not anymore.
"I've seen the consequences that people have gone through. It's not worth it," he said today.
