Phillies Add Seven To MLB Roster Including Maikel Franco

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies announced on Monday afternoon that they will add seven players to the MLB roster as part of September call-ups.

The players that will join the Phillies are infielder Cesar Hernandez, catcher Cameron Rupp, relief pitcher Luis Garcia, relief pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, infielder Maikel Franco, outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. and relief pitcher Mike Adams who will return from a stint on the disabled list.

The most intriguing name on the list is Maikel Franco. The prospect has been on a tear as of late for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and is beginning to open eyes with his play at the plate.

Franco was named as the IronPig's Player of the Year after batting .257 with 33 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs, and 78 RBIs in 133 games played. Franco had a stellar season overall, but his bat heated up this summer.

Since July 2nd, Franco batted .324 with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs.

Franco has established himself as the organization's top prospect and fans will finally get a chance to see him a big league uniform. His primary position is third base, but the team also sees him as someone who can fill in at first base as well.
