Del. State Police Investigating Motorcycle Crash That Left One Dead And Seriously Injured Another

DELMAR, Del. (CBS) – Del. State Police are investigating a motorcycle crash that killed one person and left another seriously injured.

Around 10:10 p.m. on Thursday evening, a 60-year-old male from Delmar was driving a 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle on Sussex Highway (US 13) in the right lane approximately one quarter mile north of Iron Hill Road.

It's believed an unknown vehicle may have pulled out in front of the motorcycle, causing the driver to lock the brakes and lay the motorcycle down to avoid contact.

In doing that, both the motorcycle driver and his female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The driver landed in the left lane, while the passenger landed in the right.

Shortly after the motorcycle crash, the driver of a 2000 Honda Accord who was traveling north on US 13 in the right lane partially ran over the female victim, who was apparently unconscious in the right lane.

The passenger, later identified as Lisa L. Boothe, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male victim, identified as John H. English, was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Neither person on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.

The operator of the Honda Accord, Richard N. Jones, 32, of Delmar, was properly restrained and uninjured.

Police are investigating in order to find out whether a non-contact vehicle contributed to the crash.

Preliminary investigation reveals the driver of the motorcycle may have been drinking.

US 13 North in the area of Iron Hill Road was closed for about 4.5 hours while the crash was cleared.
