Major Northeast Phila. Intersection Closed By Water Main Break

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Water Department says work on a broken water main will keep Verree Road closed for at least three weeks.

The 12-inch main broke around midnight under Verree Road, between Welsh Road and Pine Hill Avenue, undermining the street from curb to curb.

That area is now closed in both directions until work is completed.

The water department says repairs began this morning around 9am.

The affected area includes 15 homes, a synagogue, and a child care facility.

About six months ago, a break in a 12-inch water main a few blocks north forced the temporary closure Verree Road at the intersection of Red Lion Road.    Dozens of properties were affected.
