Diverse Group Set To Speak At College Graduation Ceremonies Across Philadelphia

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Graduation ceremonies are on tap this week at universities across the city — and the list of commencement speakers covers the gamut from well-known performers to a recent grad.

Temple University holds commencement on May 15th with three speakers: Singer-activist and Philadelphia native Jill Scott; Lewis Katz, co-owner of Philadelphia Media Network, and James West a scientist and inventor with 250 patents.

Villanova University follows on May 16th with Doctor Jill Biden as the keynote speaker. She is an alumna of Villanova, and of course, the Vice-president’s wife.

La Salle University holds graduation on May 18th, with Senior communications major Emily Moran giving the address.

The University of Pennsylvania’s ceremonies are May 19th with Grammy award-winning songwriter John Legend, who is also a graduate of Penn’s class for 1999.

Drexel University has a number of ceremonies and many speakers, including NBC Correspondent Andrea Mitchell who will address the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. That happens on June 14th.
