PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – An off-duty Philadelphia police officer has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, assault and related charges.

According to the DA’s office, the incident occurred on Oct. 20, 2013 around 2:45 a.m.

The victim was reportedly walking near the 1100 block of South Ninth Street when the off-duty officer, 34-year-old Edward Sawicki III, reportedly backed his car into the victim, hitting his knee.

The victim supposedly then pounded on the trunk of Sawicki’s vehicle with his hand in order to let the officer know he’d backed into him.

Officials say Sawicki then got out of his car, pulled up his shirt to show a gun and rushed at the victim, yelling racial epithets and threatening to kill him.

The victim contacted police, and Sawicki was identified as an off-duty Philadelphia police officer.

The gun shown in the alleged incident was a city-issued firearm and was confiscated.

Sawicki is now facing charges of making terroristic threats, posssession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct related to the incident.
