Philadelphia Ranked Unhealthiest County In The State...Again
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphians, it's time to do something about this.
For the second year in a row, Philadelphia is officially the least healthy county in the state, according to the fifth annual County Health Rankings released on Wednesday by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.
Twenty-nine factors are taken into account when compiling the rankings, including smoking, high school graduation rates and access to healthy foods.
The 2014 rankings have Philadelphia in last place, though the RWJF notes it did score well in terms of healthcare providers per capita.
Still, the news isn't good. The 2014 County Health Rankings show that people living in the least healthy counties are twice as likely to have shorter lives as people living in the healthiest counties. Unhealthy counties also have twice as many kids living in poverty and twice as many teenage births as healthy counties.
So, what are the healthiest Pennsylvania counties? Union came in first, followed by Chester, Centre, Cumberland and Montgomery.
