York County Woman Charged With Surrogate Scam

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania woman is charged with scamming thousands of dollars from a Maryland couple looking for a surrogate mother to carry their baby.

Thirty-six-year-old Christina Lee Jensen of Fairview Township, York County, is charged with forgery, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and related counts.

Police allege Jensen bilked the couple out of $4,300 from May 2011 to August 2012. That's when the couple suspected they were being scammed and contacted authorities.

Investigators said Jensen fabricated legal contracts, receipts and emails and forged an attorney's signature on a contract.

The 17-month-long police investigation culminated with the arrest of Jensen on Friday.

She was released after posting $70,000 cash bail. Her court records do not list an attorney.
