Saint Joseph's Beats Bonnies To Reach A-10 Final
NEW YORK (AP) — Halil Kanacevic had 26 points and 17 rebounds, and Saint Joseph's reached the finals of the Atlantic 10 tournament for the first time since 2008 with a 67-48 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
The fourth-seeded Hawks (23-9) pulled away early in the second half as the Bonnies went 8½ minutes without a field goal.
Ninth-seeded St. Bonaventure (18-15) stunned No. 18 Saint Louis in the quarterfinals, but a day after several huge shots fell through, the Bonnies couldn't find the bottom of the net.
Kanacevic, a senior forward from nearby Staten Island, was hampered by foul trouble in Friday's victory over fellow bubble team Dayton but still pulled down 12 rebounds.
In the semifinals, he made 8 of 12 shots and added four assists and two steals, punctuating the win with a dunk with less than four minutes left that put Saint Joseph's up 61-42.
