Philadelphia Native Creates Hyper-Local Social Networking Site

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you're looking to connect with your neighbors, there's a social network for that.
"Nextdoor" is connecting neighbors to their neighborhoods.
Philadelphia-born co-founder and CEO Nirav Tolia says Nextdoor -- defined as a private social network for neighborhoods -- provides an easy way to reach your neighbors.
"We believe the neighborhood is one of the most important communities of our life, so it makes sense to have a piece of technology that allows us to connect in a trusted way with that community," he tells KYW Newsradio.
Nextdoor members can use the site to recommend things like a dentist or a dry cleaner, post community events, or even alert neighbors about suspicious activities.
"You go to Nextdoor.com, you enter your address. It's completely free. And once we know your address we can put you in your neighborhood web site. Everyone in your neighborhood site has to verify that they actually live in the neighborhood, so it's private, it's safe, it's trusted."
Tolia says Nextdoor is now being used in one out of every six neighborhoods across the country, and in 250 neighborhoods in Philadelphia.
