HATBORO, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a car was hit by a commuter train in Montgomery County and the driver was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition.

Officials say the SEPTA regional rail train collided with a car at a rail crossing around 9 p.m. in Hatboro. The car was pushed about 40 feet down the track and the driver was trapped inside for 20 minutes.

SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern says that the safety gates at the crossing were working and that the collision is under investigation.

SEPTA says none of the 60 to 75 passengers on the train was hurt and that shuttle buses were running between Willow Grove and Warminster stations.
