PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Charlie Manuel is back with the Phillies, but this time, he won’t be in the dugout.

94WIP’s Anthony Gargano has confirmed from Manuel that the former manager will return to the Phillies in an advisory role. Manuel will serve as an adviser to general manager Ruben Amaro, and provide help in the areas of player development, and advanced scouting.

Manuel, who was fired by Amaro as manager of the Phillies on August 16th, led the Phillies to their first World Series victory since 1980 in 2008. The Phillies returned to the World Series in 2009, and the playoffs in 2010 and 2011, but failed the make the playoffs in 2012 and 2013.

Gargano reports that the Phillies will make an official announcement in the next day or two.
