Delaware River Mansion Decks The Halls For A Special Christmas Celebration

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's become a popular family tradition in the Delaware Valley.

The last remaining Delaware River mansion in the city open to the public.

Glen Foerd is holding their annual Christmas Open House this Sunday December 15th and this family event has something for everyone!

Executive Director of Glen Foerd on the Delaware Meg Sharp Walton describes the origin of this year's Celtic theme.

"Charles Macalester was the man who founded the estate in 1850. He was of Scottish descent...so the tree has plaid ribbon through it. He named this area Torresdale after his Scottish heritage," Sharp-Walton says.

The mansion is open to the public all year-long, but their Christmas at the Mansion celebration draws scores of families from throughout the area.

All the rooms will be decorated for the occasion.

"Settlement school does performances throughout the mansion. Piano solos, string ensembles and Nutcracker Ballet in the Art Gallery," Sharp-Walton says.

Children can make crafts and there will be a tree lighting complete with Christmas caroling.
