Sixers Honor Local District Attorney With Award

By Brad Segall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--The Philadelphia 76ers recognized Montgomery County's First Assistant District Attorney this week as one of their "Heroes Among Us" and it came as quite a surprise to the recipient.

Kevin Steele was honored for his dedication and commitment to the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in southeastern Pennsylvania.

A former board member, he works closely with the non-profit agency to expand its scope throughout the area forging relationships with other organizations.

Even as he walked to the court to accept the award from Sixers ambassador World B. Free he didn't realize he was in the spotlight.

"It was overwhelming. I've never been at center court in a professional basketball game and it was quite the view to look out and look around in the crowd."

Steele is a former board member who has helped expand the scope of the organization throughout the Philadelphia region and helped the agency partner with the District Attorney's office and other area officials.

The Sixers donated half of their 50/50 raffle promotion.  Steele can now present Big Brothers Big Sisters with a $2500 check.
