Dogs Found Dead In Trash Bags Along Roads In The Poconos

STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- An animal shelter is offering a $500 reward and police are investigating after several dogs—most of them dead—were found in black trash bags left along roads in the Poconos.

The Animal Welfare Society of Monroe says a small black dog was found dead in a bag in Stroud Township on Monday, though another dog found survived and is recovering.

The incident appeared to be isolated until three more dead dogs were found in bags, separately, in Gilbert, Jonas and Broadheadsville—also along roads throughout Monroe County.

Richard Homar, a spokesman for the shelters, says "It sickens all of us here at AWSOM and we want to get to the bottom of this."
