Code Blue Declared For Montgomery County

NORRISTOWN, Pa., (CBS)The Montgomery County Commissioners have declared a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency for the county based on a review of forecasts from the National Weather Service.

The Code Blue Declaration has been issued beginning at 9 p.m. on Wednesday night until 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.

"During a Code Blue it is imperative that we check on our elderly relatives and neighbors to make sure they are safe, and it is even more important over this holiday weekend," said Commissioner Bruce L. Castor, Jr. in a statement.  "Our police, first responders, non-profit agencies, and the county Public Safety Department stand ready to lend assistance, but I urge everyone to be vigilant to make sure everyone has a safe holiday weekend."

Officials say a Code Blue Cold Weather Declaration is made when winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter. A Code Blue is called when the combination of air temperature and wind chill is anticipated to be 20ºF or less.
