MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — A southern New Jersey man convicted of fatally stabbing a man during a street fight in Atlantic City (see related story) has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Manuel Concepcion Jr. was convicted last month on aggravated manslaughter and weapons charges stemming from the July 2011 attack on 45-year-old Ignacio Castro, who died about three weeks later from his wounds. Besides the sentence he received this week on those charges, Concepcion also received a concurrent four-year term for an unrelated cocaine possession charge.
Atlantic County prosecutors had sought a life sentence, citing Concepcion’s lengthy criminal record.
Prosecutors have said Concepcion stabbed Castro in the heart with scissors, but have not said what spurred the brawl. The 35-year-old Atlantic City man had denied delivering the fatal blow.
