D.A.: Former Philadelphia Youth Football Coach Charged With Sexually Assaulting 2 Boys
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A former youth football coach is charged with sexually assaulting two boys, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Prosecutors say Leon Watson, 24, of Philadelphia, was arrested on Sunday after an anonymous tip led authorities to his home over the weekend.
Watson is facing several charges including Rape and Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse. Investigators say Watson developed a relationship with two brothers, ages 8 and 9, and allegedly sexually assaulted both boys. Prosecutors say the boys eventually moved into his home in October.
The District Attorney’s Office says Watson was a part-time coach for the Rhawnhurst Raiders football team from August 2013 until October. Prosecutors say he had also formed his own neighborhood team called the “Little Vicks,” which was comprised of young boys from his neighborhood.
The District Attorney’s Office has charged Watson with Rape, Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse (IDSI), False Imprisonment, Unlawful Restraint, Endangering the Welfare of a Child (EWOC), Corruption of Minors, Indecent Exposure, Indecent Assault, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person(REAP) for sexually assaulting two young boys.
The investigation is ongoing.
The District Attorney’s Office believes there may be more victims and is urging parents involved with Rhawnhurst Raiders or “Little Vicks” football teams to speak to their children.
Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately, at either 911 or the Special Victim’s Unit at 215-685-3251.
The District Attorney’s Office said there is a special phone line and email address for individuals to report sexual abuse to their office. The phone number is 215-686-8019 and email address is email@example.com.
Watson is currently being held on $500,000 bail.
