Delaware Police Believe Alcohol And Speeding May Have Contributed To Fatal Accident

DOVER, Del. (CBS)--Delaware Police are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred early Monday morning just west of Dover.

The accident happened around 4:10 a.m.  The driver, Lindsay Stevens, 30, failed to properly negotiate a curve and her van traveled off of the roadway. Her vehicle overturned several times before coming to a stop in a retention pond.

Neither Stevens nor her passenger, Kimberly Proud, 37, were wearing a seatbelt and they were both ejected from the vehicle.

Both women were flown to Christian Medical Center. Proud later died as a result of her injuries. Stevens is currently listed in stable condition.

According to a police investigation, alcohol and high-speeds may have contributed to the accident.

Hazlettville Road between Nault Road and Quail run was closed for three hours after the crash.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into the incident.
