SHARON, Pa. (AP) — Police in western Pennsylvania say a two-vehicle accident that killed two high school football players and a third person on the eve of a playoff game doesn’t appear to have been caused by alcohol, drugs or texting.

Sharon Police Chief Michael Menster said Saturday it appeared that one of the players, 18-year-old Corey Swartz of Sharon, drove a sport utility vehicle across a median strip and hit an oncoming truck.

Menster says Swartz and three other players were on their way home from watching another playoff game late Friday when the accident occurred.

The police chief says the other driver, who also died, was 50-year-old John Zdelar Jr., of Brookfield, Ohio.

Swartz’s passenger and teammate Evan Gill also was killed, and four people were injured.
