Indictment In Crash That Killed Retired NJ Rabbi
PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man has been indicted on aggravated manslaughter and other charges in connection with a chain reaction crash that killed the retired director of Princeton University's Center for Jewish Life.
The Mercer County prosecutor's office says a grand jury returned a 3-count indictment against 21-year-old Eric Maltz of Princeton on Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Maltz was speeding and driving recklessly on March 28 when he crossed lanes and struck an unoccupied car, which careened into a Prius that 74-year-old Rabbi James Diamond was getting into on the passenger side (see related story). Diamond was pronounced dead at the scene. The Prius driver was seriously injured.
Maltz is free on bail. Attorney Robert Lytle declined to comment on the charges but says the Maltz family is praying for the families of both victims.
