8-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shot In Chester

CHESTER, Pa., (CBS) -- Chester Police say an 8-year-old boy was accidentally shot on Thursday.

The incident was reported at about 5:14 p.m. at the 500 block of Norris Street in Chester.

Police say arriving officers were directed to a second floor bedroom where they found the victim, suffering from a gunshot wound to the left buttock.

The boy was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center, where he is being treated for the non-life threatening injury.

Police say the shooting appears to be an accidental discharge while handling a weapon.

A 19-year-old family member was taken into custody and will be charged with Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Receiving Stolen Property.

Authorities recovered a 9mm Ruger at the scene.
