Beaten Dog Found Tied To Tree In The Poconos

STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) — An animal shelter is tending to a flea-ridden dog, which authorities say was found beaten and tied to a tree in eastern Pennsylvania.

Workers at the Animal Welfare Society in Stroudsburg say they know who owns the 4-year-old puggle mix because of a microchip embedded in the dog. No charges have been filed against the owner, however, since the dog was found on Sunday.

Shelter officials say they plan to speak with the dog's owner to determine if the abuse happened in that person's care or afterward. The dog was adopted from the shelter in February 2012 by someone who lived in Stroudburg.

The dog was found tied to a tree in Wind Gap, with its ears infected and eyes swollen shut.
