3-Day Walk Steps Off From Willow Grove This Morning

By Jim Melwert, Carol Erickson

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. (CBS) - They'll walk 60-miles over the next three days, to help the fight against breast cancer, and it all starts today.

After opening ceremonies, 1,200 participants will walk from the Willow Grove Mall all the way to the Navy Yard over the next three days. Spokeswoman Dr. Sheri Phillips says it's emotional for everyone, especially breast cancer survivors like her.

"There are many tears that are shed. Some are shed because of joy, because we're celebrating life and we're honoring lives. Then there are some that are shed in memory. We miss the ones that we have lost to the disease."

Now, for those not taking part, there are cheer zones along the way. Today, that will be at about mile 10 along the walk, on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill.
