Shelter Animals Arriving In Burlington County To Get Second Chance At Life
LUMBERTON, NJ (CBS) – More than 400 homeless animals will get a second chance at life during a rescue event that's being billed as one of the biggest in history.
On Saturday, October 5th, the hundreds of animals rescued from high kill shelters will be flown by volunteer pilots from Midcoast Regional Airport in Hinesville, GA to locations all over the East Coast.
It's called "Operation Special Delivery," and the life-saving event, organized by nonprofit Pilots N Paws, will bring 65 animals to Lumberton, NJ between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. They'll then be placed in no-kill shelters or foster homes until they can be adopted out.
And the organization isn't stopping there. Pilots N Paws says it will also be emptying out the Fort Stewart Military Pet Shelter, which houses animals whose owners had to go overseas for military service and injured "soldier dogs" that can no longer serve. Many of these animals are being trained as service and comfort dogs and will be going to injured veterans through the Paws of War program.
