Fire Rips Through Two Homes In Willow Grove

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. (CBS) -- Ten people were displaced after a fast-moving fire ripped through two homes in Montgomery County.

The 2-alarm blaze broke out around 11 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Fairview Avenue in Willow Grove.

Authorities say the fire started on the porch of one home and quickly spread to a neighboring house, making it difficult to contain.

"It went to two alarms," said Roslyn Fire Chief Dale Jonas. "We had a total of a hundred firemen here. We had some difficulty at first with the water supply, this is a small main on this street and a small street as you can see, so it was tough to get trucks in and get a water supply going to get the fire out."

All of the residents were safely evacuated, but both homes were severely damaged by the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the two displaced families.

As of early Saturday morning, crews were still hosing down hot spots.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
