Suspect Arrested For Stabbing Retired Philadelphia Police Officer
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police have arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for stabbing a retired Philadelphia police officer on Monday morning.
The stabbing happened in the 3000 block of Salmon Street in the city's Port Richmond section.
Investigators say the retired officer was outside his home when he was stabbed in the chest by an unknown assailant. The unidentified officer was taken to Temple University Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
On Wednesday, Philadelphia police announced they'd arrested 31-year-old Joseph Fitzgerald, who is now charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault and related offenses. He is being held on $400,000 bail.
There is no word on a motive.
