The Go-To Man For College Financial Aid And Scholarships
By Dr. Marciene Mattleman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mark Kantrowitz, 46, says he knows everything about financing college and it's on Finaid.org and Fastweb.com, a scholarship search site, both of which he developed.
His policy papers reach dozens of legislative aides and he estimates being quoted in more than 5,000 news articles annually.
As a student at M.I.T., Kantrowitz covered his costs with math and science scholarships and beat the US Department of Education in publishing its own information online. His lists drew attention from Prentice Hall, resulting in a book published in 1993.
Leaving his websites behind with Monster Worldwide, he's now overhauling underdeveloped college-related sites for Edvisors, recently acquired by the College Loan Corporation. Despite some controversy which one can read about, Kantrovitz says he's not worried about his reputation.
