Philadelphia Man Survives Near-Drowning At Pool In Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) — A Philadelphia man is recovering in the hospital after nearly drowning in a pool in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Police say around 10:17 p.m. Saturday, they responded to a report of a possible drowning at Kingston Estates Swim Club in the 100 block of Deland Avenue. When they arrived, officers found the victim, 31-year-old Maurice Relaford, unconscious and unresponsive.

Authorities say lifeguards had removed the victim from the water and performed CPR before emergency responders arrived.

The victim was rushed to JFK Hospital, where police say emergency room doctors continued lifesaving efforts for approximately an hour and were able to revive and stabilize him.

Relaford was placed in the intensive care unit at the hospital.

Police say he was a guest attending a birthday party at the swim club.
