Eastern State Penitentiary Hosts 'Pets In Prison' Event
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – First it was prison food, now it's pets in prison.
This weekend, Philly's historic Eastern State Penitentiary is hosting "Pets in Prison," a two-day event that focuses on animals behind bars.
From noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, guests can learn about the role of animals throughout the prison's history – from unwelcome creepy crawlies to Eastern State's former mascot, Pep the Dog.
And if you're looking to add a new friend to the family, there will also be adoptable dogs on-site from the New Leash on Life USA program, which allows inmates to train at-risk shelter dogs.
