Festivities Planned To Introduce New 76ers Developmental League Team

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Events are planned throughout the day Wednesday to introduce fans to the 76ers new developmental league team.

The Delaware 87ers are the new NBA Developmental League affiliate of the 76ers. The team is named the "87ers," because Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution in 1787. Pep rallies, promotions and a parade are planned throughout the day, says 87ers team president Aaron Moszer.

"It's upon us to educate that this is the second-best basketball in the world. You're going to have NBA players playing down at the Bob at the University of Delaware. This is going to be great basketball. There's going to be a lot of high scoring. So the novice fan is going to really be able to enjoy these games," said Moszer.

In April, the Sixers owners bought the D-League Utah Flash, and rechristened them the 87ers. The "Sevens," as they've nicknamed themselves, begin play in November at The University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center in Newark.
