CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) – A surprise welcome home ceremony was held Sunday for a local hero, back from the battle field.

The rally was held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey to celebrate the return of Francesca “Chessie” Vollaro who was in Afghanistan serving her country.

The show of support moved the young soldier to tears. The 21 year-old joined the U.S. Army after graduating from High School in 2010.

“It made me cry the whole time because I didn’t really have anything like this when I got home three weeks ago, so I appreciated it and it’s good to know that everybody is out here to support me and my fellow troops and veterans,” Vollaro said.

She will compete in the beauty pageant in two weeks and after that, she says that she wants to continue to serve, by becoming a police officer.
