Fans, Sports Books Not Optimistic About Phillies Chances

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Two steps forward, three steps back is how the Phillies season has gone so far. After winning two out of the three against the Padres to start a ten-game road trip, the Phillies followed it up by losing three out of four to the Dodgers.

The team sits 9.5 games out of the division lead, and 7.5 games out of the second wild card position, and gaining ground on neither.

Though the team has a history of second half surges, it doesn't seem like fans, or sports books, think that's very likely.

During the Mike and Ike Show on 94WIP Monday, fans were polled whether they still "have hope" that the Phillies can make the playoffs this year, via the Audio Roadshow app for Android and iPhone. 92% of respondents said they no longer have hope.

As for sports books, Bovada has the Phillies at 66/1 to win the World Series this year, odds that have steadily gotten longer as the season has gone on. The Phillies are 25/1 to win the National League pennant, and 18/1 to win the National League East.

One bright side as far as the sports books are concerned is Cliff Lee, who is the fourth most likely to win the NL Cy Young award, at 13/2 odds.
